Candlewood Elementary School PTA
Many families choose to live in Montgomery County due to the great reputation of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). However, what role do parents and guardians play to insure that the education of their child(ren) reflects the quality promoted by MCPS? Equally, how can parents and guardians along the entire trajectory of MCPS schools, from elementary levels, to middle school, to high school, help each other to become better informed advocates for their child(ren)?
This meeting touched on what questions elementary-school parents and guardians may ask now to inform their understanding about the trajectory of their child(ren) in MCPS, and especially to help them obtain the very best educational experiences at the elementary level. Included will be the “lessons learned” from middle- and high-school parents and guardians about what they wished they knew when their children were in elementary school. Our meeting also touched on the impact elementary school decisions have on future course selections.
Cyberbullying Prevention Resources shared at the October 2016 Candlewood PTA meeting by our special guest speaker Mr. Phil Andrews, Director of Crime Prevention Initiatives in the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, Mrs. AnneMarie Hetrick, Candlewood's Professional School Counselor, and Dr. Linda Sheppard, Candlewood's Principal.
